Bone broth is great to for building immunity in the body. It has all the essentials for bone and gut health. It can be very expensive in the store for purchase but super easy to make in a crockpot! It is best to roast the bones first then just add all to the crockpot and let it sit for two days for best results. Make sure to purchase bones from a trustworthy, sustainable source. Local butchers tend to have a bunch of these cheap on hand for purchase. I add in a lot of carminative, digestive, warming and antibacterial spices. Feel free to omit and customize spices if you do not have on hand, turmeric is the most essential of them.
2 1/2 lbs. Beef or Chicken Bones
1 tsp Olive Oil
3 Chopped Carrots
2 Stalks Celery Chopped
1 Large White Onion Chopped
1 tbsp Fresh Grated Ginger
1 tsp Coriander Seeds
1 tsp Cumin Seeds
1 tsp Fennel Seeds
1 tsp Turmeric Powder
1/4 tsp Black Peppercorns
1 Cinnamon Stick
6-10 Whole Cloves
1/4 tsp Rock Salt
1 tbsp Lemon Juice
1/3 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar with "The Mother"
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Rinse the bones, trim off any excess meat and pat dry. Coat in olive oil and bake in oven for 30 minutes.
3. Add bones and all remaining ingredients to crockpot. Cover with water, filling about an inch to brim.
4. Cook on low heat for at least 24 hours to two days. The longer the better to extract all essential nutrients and collagen from the bones. I leave mine in the crockpot for two days.
5. Strain all ingredients through a mesh strainer. I pour mine into mason jars and allow to sit in the refrigerate for several hours until fat rises to the top. Remove top layer of fat.
6. Heat and enjoy! I like to freeze extra batches in the freezer to keep longer.
